How to get rid of Ants and stay in Hygienic Surroundings

The presence of ants in your house can be very annoying and if you leave the same unattended, they can lead to a lot of discomfort and spoil the hygiene of your home. Ants usually crawl on different surfaces and if unnoticed, with the same dirt on their body they oftentimes infest food, thereby threatening us health wise. So, it is of utmost importance to eradicate ants fully. If you cannot do so fully, at least adopt means that can reduce the infestation of ants in your house. This can be done in a number of ways. You can use chemicals or you can also opt for non chemical procedures. In this article we will highlight about both the methods. So, read on for more information.

  • Use vinegar - When you mix vinegar and water in 1:1 ratio and wipe the surface with the solution, you can get rid of ants to a great extent. This is because being acidic in nature, ants have an aversion for vinegar and they cannot stand the smell of vinegar too.
  • Use vacuum cleaner - You can vacuum clean the ants wherever you notice them. However, remember, if you have ants around there might be scout ants too. Scout ants are the ones that hunt for cozy and appropriate places in your house where they can stay permanently. So, you have to repeat the process frequently.
  • Use talcum powder - You can spray around the ants, talcum powder. This keeps the ants at bay as they do not like the smell of chalk that is sometimes present.
  • Boiling water works - If you can trace the residing place of these ants, boil some water enough to kill few hundred ants and pour the hot water on these ants. The ants are instantly killed.
  • Use bleach or all purpose solution - Bleach is effective in killing ants. You can either use bleach to completely finish these ants or you can use all purpose solution and spray some on the ants.
  • Mixture - A mixture of alcohol, dish soap, and water is an effective solution or mixture to the ants. Alcohol keeps ants at bay. Use a teaspoon of rubbing alcohol and a teaspoon of dish soap to water.
  • Cornmeal - Using cornmeal to kill ants is interesting. Leave cornmeal around where ant-infestation is severe. When ants feed on to cornmeal and drink water thereafter, they swell up and burst. This is safe and unlike poison can be used to kill ants at home.
  • Use spices and bay leaves - Chili pepper, cinnamon, black pepper, cloves, cayenne pepper, and garlic are ideal for keeping ants away. Sprinkle these spices around the place where you have seen ants the most. Also you can keep bay leaves inside cabinets and closets and you won’t find ants around any longer.
  • Borax mixed with jelly - When you mix borax with jelly and if ants happen to consume this, it acts instantly. Borax damages the digestive system of the ants and also their bones and skeleton, thereby leading to death.
